Wednesday marked the third anniversary of the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office launching its Mississippi Access to Maternal Assistance (MAMA) service, an online platform and mobile app aimed at connecting pregnant women and mothers to statewide resources.
Since its October 2023 launch, the website has been visited more than 27,000 times with about 88,000 page hits. The mobile app, released on Jan. 1, 2024, has been downloaded over 1,000 times.
“MAMA is one way we are working to empower women and support families,” Attorney General Lynn Fitch said. “We want women to know they are not alone and that resources are available to help them thrive.”
MAMA was created through legislation passed in 2023. Fitch’s office led the effort with support from state agencies, including the Department of Information Technology Services, which developed the website within three months to meet the Oct. 1, 2023, launch deadline.
The program organizes resources into nine categories: pregnancy, health, adoption, food, goods, safety, money, childcare, and jobs. Services listed range from free pregnancy tests and Medicaid enrollment to food assistance, job training, and access to shelters or legal aid.
To date, more than 400 resources have been added to the directory. Fitch’s office is continuing outreach to grow the listings and is encouraging public, private, and faith-based organizations to participate. Groups interested in joining can submit their information through the MAMA website.
