Freight distribution and supply chain management provider Averitt Express is expanding its operations in Mississippi with a $9 million-plus corporate investment announced Tuesday.
Averitt currently has more than 140 warehouses and distribution facilities in the Southeast, including a location in Grenada and its existing service center for trucking operations in Richland. The Richland location will be seeing a facelift via the investment, including the construction of a 150,000-square-foot logistics facility. The investment is panned to create 27 jobs.
“This is yet another great economic development project for Mississippi. Our state has one of the best transportation networks in the country, so it’s not a surprise that more distribution and supply chain management companies want to invest here,” Gov. Tate Reeves said. “Mississippi is on the move, and Averitt Express is helping keep our record-breaking momentum going.
“By adding 27 new jobs and expanding its capabilities, the company is reinvesting in its success and contributing to Rankin County’s economic growth and Mississippi’s future.”
Barry Blakely, Averitt Express president and chief operating officer, said the corporate investment will not only strengthen the company but the local economy. Averitt Express has an international reach to more than 100 countries, including a distribution network that covers North America.
“At Averitt, we believe our growth is tied directly to the strength of the communities we serve,” he said. “This expansion in Richland represents more than a new facility — it is a commitment to creating jobs, investing in Rankin County, expanding our infrastructure, and continuing to deliver supply chain solutions our customers count on. We are proud to deepen our roots in Mississippi and look forward to building on the strong partnerships that make this growth possible.”
The Mississippi Development Authority is providing assistance through the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive program. Rankin County and the city of Richland are also assisting with the project.
“Averitt Express once again chose Mississippi because it pays off,” MDA executive director Bill Cork said. “This expansion brings more jobs, stronger supply chains, and new opportunities for Rankin County families. Mississippians have the grit and determination to deliver, and that — along with our position as a top business location — is why Averitt and so many others continue to grow here.”
The construction of the new logistics facility is expected to be completed within the next five years.
