A 14-year-old was the victim of a fatal shooting in Tupelo.
Police report that gunfire rang out at the Nathaniel Place Apartments on Thursday around 7:40 p.m. When first responders arrived at the scene, they found one person dead and the other suffering injuries linked to gunshots.
Officials identified the deceased as Demario Faulkner, an eighth-grade student at Plantersville Middle School. The other victim’s identity was not released.
“Demario was the kind of young man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His gentle spirit, kind heart, and respectful nature reflected the very best of him and our school community,” an official statement from Plantersville Middle School reads.
“Whether in the classroom, the hallways, or among his friends, Demario’s quiet strength and BIG warm smile reminded us daily of the goodness and promise that our students bring into the world.”
Law enforcement officers took one suspect of interest into custody in connection with this shooting. The individual has not been identified at this time.
