A Mississippi Gulf Coast mother is behind bars after her two young children drowned to death.
On Monday, around 5:30 p.m., Gautier police and firefighters responded to a distress call at a home on Three Oaks Drive after two young children, ages 5 and 2, were found unresponsive near a swimming pool. According to officials, first responders immediately began life-saving efforts, and both children were transported to a local hospital.
The children did not survive. The mother, 36-year-old Amber Goldman, was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected. At this time, officials have not confirmed how the children got into the swimming pool.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy that has deeply affected our community,” Gautier Police Chief David Bever said in a statement. “Our hearts are with the family, friends, and first responders impacted by this heartbreaking loss. We ask everyone to keep them in your thoughts and prayers as investigators continue to seek answers.”
