Authorities have arrested one person after a road-rage shooting in Brandon resulted in gunfire and left one woman injured.
According to the Reservoir Police Department, a suspect was taken into custody in nearby Madison on Monday afternoon. The suspect was later identified as Walter Dennis Ainsworth. The 43-year-old from Florence was arrested while eating at a local restaurant.
Ainsworth is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and drive-by shooting into an occupied vehicle. More charges are possible.
A preliminary investigation found that, on Sunday around 9 p.m., a woman was driving west on Spillway Road when she noticed a vehicle following closely behind her. As she stopped at a red light near the intersection of North Shore Parkway and Old Fannin Road, the suspect pulled up beside her and fired a single shot at her vehicle.
The bullet did not hit the driver, but she suffered minor injuries from broken glass.
