After an elderly woman was found dead at a Mississippi church, police say her grandson has admitted to killing her.
Ollie Hamilton, 73, died after being severely beaten at Smith Chapel Holiness Church in the Athens community near Aberdeen on Wednesday evening. An update on the investigation was announced by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday night, saying Jadynn Hamilton, 17, had been arrested in connection with her death.
“During the investigation, evidence began to point to Jadynn, the grandson of Mrs. Ollie, who was allegedly present when the assault happened,” Sheriff Kevin Crook said. “Jadynn was taken into custody and more evidence was gathered. He would later confess to the crime.”
Jadynn Hamilton was charged with murder and received a $500,000 bond. A motive has not been announced.
“I can’t imagine how hard this is on the community. There are so many good people in and around that church and my heart goes out to them and the family,” Crook continued. “This is a tragedy in the worst kind, and it can tear apart families. Please keep them in your prayers.”
