The suspect accused of killing Hinds County sheriff’s sergeant James Dotson Jr. has been arrested.
Sheriff Tyree Jones took to social media to announce that Ladarien Tyrese Jones, 26, was handcuffed on Wednesday at an undisclosed location in Vicksburg. Dotson, 32, was killed after gunfire rang out at the 1700 block of Dorgan Street on Sunday night. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.
“HCSO and JPD would like to thank all agencies that assisted in this investigation, which ultimately led to the arrest of this suspect,” the sheriff said. “Sgt. Dotson was off-duty at the time of his death.”

Jones is charged with murder and auto theft. On Tuesday, Jackson police officers and Hinds County sheriff’s deputies recovered a gray 2020 Dodge Challenger in the parking lot of a local apartment complex. The vehicle, which reportedly belonged to Dotson, was towed to the state crime lab to be processed for evidence.
Another person, Mercedes Guise, 27, was arrested and charged with hindering prosecution and accessory after the fact.

Jones was denied bond and Guise had her bond set at $500,000 during initial court appearances on Thursday.
Authorities are continuing to investigate this case. Anyone with relevant information relating to Dotson’s death is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (601) 355-8477 or the Jackson Police Department at (601) 960-1234.
