Ole Miss earned another commanding victory in the early regular season, defeating Louisiana-Monroe 86-65 on Friday night.
AJ Storr scored 19 points and connected on four of six shots from three-point range. His efforts, along with a strong showing from point guard Ilias Kamardine, boosted the Rebels to a relatively seamless win against the Warhawks. Kamardine had 15 points and seven assists in the matchup.
Ole Miss jumped off to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes of action but cooled offensively, allowing Louisiana-Monroe to cut the deficit to two points with 11:58 on the clock. The Rebels, fueled by a triple from Storr and seven straight points from Kamardine off of three Warhawk turnovers, rebuilt their scoreboard advantage. At halftime, Ole Miss led 47-28.

An exchange of three-pointers, one by Kamardine and the other by Warhawk forward Renars Sondors, opened the final 20 minutes of regulation. But the Rebels went on to build an insurmountable buffer. A deep shot by Ole Miss big man Malik Dia found the home team up 64-35 with 13:07 remaining in the second half. Less than five minutes later, a successful three-point play by freshman Patton Pinkins gave Ole Miss a 31-point lead — its largest of the night.
Louisiana-Monroe ate into its deficit in the final eight minutes of regulation. Sondors, with help from former Mississippi State guard MJ Russell, led a valiant counterpunch, but one that was insufficient to have a meaningful impact on the outcome of the contest.
Dia rounded out a trio of Rebels in double-figures, logging 11 points in the matchup. LSU transfer Corey Chest had a solid outing, leading the team in rebounds with nine. The Warhawks had three players score more than 10 points. Krystian Lewis had 17, Russell scored 15, and Sondors accounted for 11.
Next up for Ole Miss is a Tuesday night matchup against Memphis. The game will tip off from the SJB Pavilion at 8 p.m. CT and will be aired on the SEC Network, along with participating SuperTalk Mississippi stations.
