A school teacher in Columbus has been locked up after authorities reportedly discovered drugs in his vehicle.
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office announced that deputies conducted a routine traffic stop Monday after observing a vehicle traveling without headlights or taglights. While searching the vehicle, which was being driven by 33-year-old Ryan Bogan, deputies found methamphetamine, marijuana, and other controlled substances.
Bogan, who is employed by the Columbus Municipal School District, faces multiple drug possession charges, along with charges related to headlight infractions. He was transported to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center.
“School teachers play an essential role in guiding and inspiring our youth, and they are entrusted with setting a positive example in our community,” Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said. “While it’s unfortunate when someone in that position makes a mistake, it reminds us that accountability and fairness are key to maintaining public trust. Our deputies will continue to uphold the law with integrity and respect for all, ensuring our community remains safe and strong.”
The Columbus Municipal School District has not commented on Bogan’s arrest at this time.
