More than two dozen children in Central Mississippi were able to take a trip to the North Pole on Tuesday.
The Mississippi Air National Guard’s 172nd Airlift Wing and the Salvation Army hosted the 19th annual Flight to the North Pole, offering 31 underprivileged youth an opportunity to visit a simulated version of where Santa Claus resides.
“From joyful smiles to festive fun, the air was filled with holiday magic and Christmas cheer. Seeing families come together and hearts filled with joy made this experience truly unforgettable,” a statement from the Salvation Army reads. “This is what the season is all about.”
After hopping off the C-17, the children were showered with gifts, including bicycles and helmets, while also enjoying a variety of Christmas-themed activities. Event organizers put on the Flight to the North Pole each year as an opportunity for children from less fortunate backgrounds to experience holiday cheer.
