Alcorn State University officials say heightened security measures remain in place following a safety incident that prompted the campus to go into lockdown early Thursday morning.
University officials initially ordered the lockdown after receiving reports of email treats to several HBCUs, including Alcorn, but after further investigation, an announcement was made early Thursday afternoon that there “is no ongoing threat, and the campus is secure.”
While no additional details about the incident have been released, administrators say access to campus continues to be restricted. According to the university, students, faculty, and staff must present their Gold Card upon entry as security protocols remain elevated.
In a statement, Alcorn State thanked multiple agencies for their response, including the FBI, the Mississippi Office of Homeland Security, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the State Fusion Center, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, the Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, and Alcorn State Campus Police.
University officials also expressed appreciation to the campus community for their cooperation.
“We are grateful to our students, faculty, staff, and alumni for their cooperation and support.” The university said.
Administrators have not indicated when heightened security measures will be lifted but will continue share updates through official university channels.
