Friday proved to be an impressive one for William Carey’s baseball and softball pitching, while a daunting one for opposing batters.
The Crusaders were on the right side of shutouts in the two sports the same day, as the baseball club ousted Campbellsville 6-0 and the softball team annihilated Texas A&M-Victoria 14-0 — all without allowing a single hit.
On the baseball side, the no-hitter took place during game two of a doubleheader, following a 13-2 routing of Columbia International in the club’s 2026 home opener. A trio of pitchers took care of business against Campbellsville, with Everett Thompson fanning seven batters in four innings, Jackson Hawsey recording three strikeouts in two innings, and Jimmie Johnson closing the contest by punching out all three batters he faced.
Over on the softball field, Ryanne Hornsby handled things in the circle solo in the blowout win over Texas A&M-Victoria. Through five scoreless innings, Hornsby had four strikeouts. Offensively, an explosive, 10-run top of the fifth inning allowed William Carey to walk away victorious in a shortened matchup.
The Crusaders’ baseball team (5-2) will continue the regular season at Mississippi College on Tuesday afternoon, while the next game on the docket for the softball club (4-0) is a Friday doubleheader versus Stillman College in the Carey Invitational.
