A Starkville police officer is in “critical condition” after being involved in a collision while assisting with a funeral procession escort.
Local law enforcement officials reported that the incident occurred Saturday afternoon, involving an unidentified officer on a motorcycle and a vehicle that was not part of the procession. Police did not confirm the exact location of the accident. The officer was airlifted to a Jackson hospital for treatment, while the unidentified driver of the other vehicle remained on the scene and declined medical treatment.
“We are truly grateful for the overwhelming support, prayers, and encouragement from across the community, throughout the state, and from those out of state, all directed toward our injured motorcycle officer, his family, and our department,” a statement from the Starkville Police Department reads. “The officer remains in critical condition. We ask that you continue to keep the officer, his family, and the Starkville Police Department in your prayers during this time.”
The Starkville Police Department’s accident reconstruction team is investigating the collision. No additional updates have been provided.
