A man accused of striking his girlfriend in the face with a firearm in Adams County is behind bars.
Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said that 22-year-old Danterrius Jones has been arrested and charged with aggravated domestic assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Deputies responded to a call regarding an alleged assault at the Noble House Apartments in Natchez on Sunday morning. Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement made contact with the unidentified victim, who reported that Jones had physically assaulted her by striking her multiple times in the face with a firearm. The two were reported to be in a relationship.
The victim sustained visible injuries and said that the suspect then took her keys and fled the scene in her vehicle, police said. A short time later, the automobile and the suspect were located in a nearby parking lot. During the investigation, a handgun was found inside the vehicle. The firearm was found to be loaded, according to officials.
“Too often, victims suffer in silence due to fear, manipulation, financial dependence, or concern for their safety. In this case, the victim made a courageous decision to stand up, report the abuse, and call for help. That decision not only protected her, but it also potentially prevented further violence. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office commends her bravery,” Patten stated.
Patten said the victim was assisted in recovering her vehicle and advised of available resources. Evidence collected during the investigation has been secured, he added.
“The Adams County Sheriff’s Office takes incidents of domestic violence seriously and remains committed to protecting victims and holding offenders accountable,” Patten further stated. “We want the public to understand: you are not alone, and help is available. Speaking up can save your life.”
Jones is currently housed in the Adams County Jail.
