Like many parents, I know my kids are excited for summer break. But before we get there, May is also an important reminder to prepare for the future and make smart financial decisions for the next generation.
That’s why I want to remind Mississippi families that the Mississippi Prepaid Affordable College Savings Tuition (MPACT) program’s 2025-26 season closes on May 31. The next season will open on September 1 with new rates. In other words, now is the last time to lock in today’s pricing.
MPACT allows Mississippi families to prepay future education costs through a program backed by the State of Mississippi, helping protect against rising tuition costs and giving families greater peace of mind.
At the Treasury, we believe strong families, personal responsibility, and financial independence are still the foundation of the American Dream. The earlier families begin saving, the more opportunities they have to build long-term financial liberty.
This is not the approach of the Left. Their answer is almost always bigger government and more taxpayer spending. We have seen liberals push for blanket student loan bailouts and taxpayer-funded college programs, even for individuals who are in this country illegally.
Conservatives (like me and President Trump who recently strengthened this program in his One Big Beautiful Bill) believe there is a better way. Instead of expanding government, we should empower families to build prosperity for themselves. That is exactly why programs like MPACT matter. Rather than creating another entitlement program, MPACT gives parents and grandparents the tools to plan ahead, save responsibly, and invest in the next generation.
The conservative approach is simple: trust families more than government. When families have ownership over their future, they create stronger communities and lasting generational opportunity.
At the end of the day, every parent and grandparent wants the same thing: the chance to help their loved ones succeed and build a better future right here in Mississippi. As your State Treasurer, I will continue fighting for policies that reward hard work, encourage savings, help Mississippi families keep more of what they earn, and prepare the next generation for success.
Again, this MPACT season closes on May 31 (although newborns remain eligible to enroll year round). Rates could be higher when the next season reopens in September.
