For the second time in three years, Belhaven is heading to the NCAA Division III College World Series.
The Blazers (42-10) skated through a home regional before hosting and sweeping Wisconsin-Oshkosh (33-10-1) to earn one of eight bids to Salem, Va. Thursday’s game in Jackson was a dominant 5-1 win before Friday’s showing was even more dominant – Belhaven winning 10-2.
Macy Funderburk continued to be a steady force in the circle. The junior spun a complete game one, allowing four hits and one run. She earned another victory in game two, allowing two runs over 5.1 innings, and was named Jackson Super Regional Most Outstanding Pitcher.
Funderburk now has a perfect 10-0 record since the start of the postseason, including in the Collegiate Conference of the South Tournament that Belhaven won, and a 20-5 record for the entire season.
From the batter’s box, Liberty Gillihan delivered arguably the biggest showing of her career. The junior went 3-for-7 with a triple, double, four RBI, and three runs scored. Accounting for over half of the team’s scoring, she was named Jackson Super Regional Most Outstanding Player.
Belhaven will field as the 7-seed in the College World Series, opening against 2-seed and defending national champion Trine on Thursday, May 28. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. CT.
Belhaven finished as the national runners-up in 2024, one win shy of the program’s first title.
