Mississippi’s community college football teams will move from nine to 10 regular season games, effective with the 2026 season.
The schedule change comes after the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference member presidents voted in favor of the move, which has several pluses according to member schools. For one, it will allow each school to have five home games every season, rather than alternating between four and five every other year.
Additionally, as players work to rack up film in hopes of getting a scholarship at a four-year institution, it will provide an extra opportunity for them to do just that.
“It’s a phenomenal move by our league,” Northeast Mississippi Community College head coach Greg Davis said. “I think it’s going to be a beneficial situation for all our kids to showcase their abilities. It’s a great opportunity to get some extra experience for our players.”
To make the new structure possible, the MACCC decided to remove the bye week and eliminate its semifinal round, sending the North and South division winners directly to the conference championship game.
The move returns Mississippi community college football to a 10-game regular season for the first time in roughly 25 years. The upcoming season begins in late August.
