Successful superintendent Bradley Roberson is retiring from his role within the Oxford School District, the district and its Board of Trustees announced.
Roberson’s retirement comes after 25 years with the A-rated district, where he served in several capacities over his career including teacher, coach, assistant principal, director of curriculum, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. This past year, he was named a finalist for the Superintendent of the Year Award handed out annually by the National Association of School Superintendents.
He informed the Board of Trustees of his decision to retire earlier this week, according to a Friday announcement by OSD. Roberson’s retirement will be effective June 30.
“Mr. Roberson’s leadership has helped position Oxford School District as one of the premier school districts in Mississippi and beyond,” OSD Board of Trustees President Carter Myers said in a Friday announcement.
“His unwavering focus on students, dedication to continuous improvement, and commitment to building strong relationships through our schools and community have left an enduring legacy. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we are deeply grateful for his service and leadership,” Myers continued.
During his tenure as superintendent, which began in 2021, Roberson implemented improvement science into every level of the district, meaning individual schools and departments have been tasked with identifying challenges, test solutions, and scale strategies. Through the use of cascading scorecards, the district now aligns goals and measures progress on key metrics such as academic achievement, student engagement, parent satisfaction, and chronic absenteeism.
The results of the Roberson-led system have included consistent A ratings from the Mississippi Department of Education and multiple A report cards from school-district grading sites such as Niche. OSD was also recognized in August 2025 as a “Best-Managed School District” by Business View Magazine, being the only Mississippi district to receive the honor.
Roberson said leading OSD has been a dream come true and that any success was impossible without the faculty, staff, students, and families throughout the district.
“Oxford School District has been my home for more than 25 years,” he reflected. “When I became superintendent five years ago, I told many people it was my dream job. Looking back, I can honestly say it has been everything I hoped it would be and more. Serving alongside the dedicated employees, students, families, and community members of Oxford has been the greatest blessing of my professional career.”
Roberson also led the charge on the district establishing a 3K program, helping 3-year-olds develop language, literacy, and motor skills, and creating more career and technical education opportunities for students in grades 7 through 12.
The Board of Trustees will announce an interim superintendent next week with a national search for Roberson’s successor to follow.
