A man is in custody after allegedly shooting a woman multiple times near a Vicksburg car wash.
On Wednesday around 7:50 p.m., the Vicksburg Police Department responded to 2000 block of Hope Street near a local car wash in reference to a shooting. At the scene, authorities discovered a woman identified as 47-year-old Clarinda Turpin suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Turpin was transported for medical treatment but later succumbed to her injuries. The preliminary police investigation indicates the incident stemmed from a domestic-related dispute, and a source told SuperTalk Mississippi News that the two were in a relationship with one another.
Officials say the suspect, identified as Jeremy Wright, fled the scene. While fleeing, Wright allegedly ingested an unknown substance and was later apprehended at another location.
He remains behind bars as police continue to assess this case.
