Mississippi state Rep. Bo Brown has passed away at the age of 81.
The Jackson-based Democratic lawmaker passed away after suffering a “long illness,” according to his family.
“I’m sad to learn this morning of the loss of State Representative Bo Brown,” Gov. Tate Reeves wrote on X. “Rep. Brown was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply about Jackson and worked hard to improve the lives of those he represented.”
Dedicated public servant is an accurate description of Brown, who spent time as a teacher, coach, Jackson city councilman, and legislature in his professional life. He was also a beloved husband, father, and minister.
Brown, after working in the Jackson Public School District, served on the city council from 1997-2005, being named council president three times during his tenure. He was elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives in 2019 and used his platform to promote legislation aimed at strengthening the state’s capital city.
In the most recent legislative session, Brown served on the Judiciary B, Medicaid, and Transportation committees.
