A teenager has passed away after drowning in a Petal lake over the weekend.
Petal Fire Chief Marion Sims said that an emergency call was received around 7:28 p.m. on Sunday, and that a local dive team arrived at the scene of a neighborhood lake near Garden Lane around 12 minutes later. Within roughly 10 minutes, the unidentified teenager was located and pulled out of the water.
First responders attempted life-saving measures on the teen, but the individual was ultimately pronounced deceased on-site.
Authorities say a group of teens was swimming in the lake and jumping off of a rope swing at the time of the incident. The victim got in the water, but did not resurface, officials report.
Authorities did not report foul play in the death but are continuing to investigate.
