A Brandon man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted of sex crimes against a child.
Madison and Rankin County District Attorney Bubba Bramlett announced that Mark Duett, 60, was sentenced on three counts of sexual battery and two counts of gratification of lust with a child.

Duett was convicted in March after the Brandon Police Department responded to a 911 call on March 14, 2025. Throughout the course of the investigation, the child was taken to the Children’s Advocacy Center, where they disclosed that the sexual abuse by Duett took place over a three-month period when he was alone with the child.
Following this revelation, BPD obtained a search warrant and found multiple devices and items containing evidence that further helped prove Duett’s guilt. The trial began on March 23, 2026, with many key witnesses helping the jury come to a guilty verdict on March 25.
“You cannot put into words the damage done to a child in a case like this, but today’s sentence makes one thing clear: if you hurt a child in Rankin County, you can expect to spend the rest of your life paying for it,” Bramlett said.
Duett was sentenced Tuesday to one full life sentence plus 15 years for all counts.
