An investigation is underway after a dead man’s body was discovered in Copiah County.
Authorities said that a deceased male was located near Steel Creek and the Pearl River on Sunday afternoon. The individual who first spotted the body along the water notified law enforcement.
First responders with multiple agencies, including the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, and volunteers responded to the scene. Officials said the body was recovered right before 3 p.m.
While the deceased has not yet been identified, officials said he had a chain with a lion head in his pocket. The body has been transported to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
