More than $8 million in federal funding has been made available for four flood mitigation projects in Mississippi through the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The funding is part of more than $50 million FEMA announced for 25 hazard mitigation projects across seven southeastern states.
Mississippi projects include:
- $4 million for Ridgeland’s citywide flood mitigation project
- $2.5 million for Long Beach Harbor’s mitigation project
- $1.1 million for Jackson’s Midtown area stormwater infrastructure improvements project
- $1.1 million for Jackson’s Queens area stormwater infrastructure improvements project
Other states included in the funding announcement are Alabama, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
Congress authorized the projects through the FY 2026 Homeland Security and Further Additional Continuing Appropriations Act, with funding made available through FEMA’s Pre-Disaster Mitigation Grant Program.
Before funding is awarded, the communities must submit applications to FEMA by July 22. The agency will review the applications and determine eligibility before disbursing funds.
