An officer-involved shooting is under investigation after leaving one injured near a Biloxi casino on Wednesday.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety said that officers with the Gulfport Police Department entered into a brief pursuit with a white van traveling at a high rate of speed. Gulfport PD then terminated its pursuit with the Biloxi Police Department working to initiate a traffic stop
The chase ended near a boat ramp near Treasure Bay Casino and Hotel. According to DPS, the driver then discharged a weapon at officers, resulting in officers firing back. The subject was stuck and transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
No law enforcement officers received any serious physical injuries in the incident.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has taken over the case and, upon completing its investigation, will turn over findings to the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
As of Wednesday at 4:20 p.m., the subject’s name had not been released. DPS said more information may be provided at a later time.
