Global energy technology company Siemens Energy has broken ground on its $300 million facility in Rankin County.
The investment, referred to by the company as “The Horizon,” will serve to produce electrical grid components. Siemens currently employs 700 people at its Richland location and is expecting to create 300 new advanced manufacturing jobs through its latest venture at the West Rankin Industrial Park in Pearl.
Per company officials, the new campus will manufacture state-of-the-art high-voltage switchgear, technology that plays a critical role in protecting our nation’s power grid while supporting growing electricity demands and improving energy reliability. The facility will also include a training center, warehouse, and room for future expansion.
In addition to the new jobs being created, the company has announced plans to partner with Pearl public schools and Hinds Community College to give young people hands-on experience in manufacturing at the training center.
Siemens Energy’s history in the United States dates back to the 1880s, when the company began early electrification activities and opened its first U.S. manufacturing site in Pittsburgh in 1887. Siemens Energy was spun off to become a separately listed energy technology company from Siemens AG in 2020 and now operates as a fully independent subsidiary. It established its Mississippi footprint in 1973.
