If you’re like me and have spent years yearning for a freshly baked tray of Sister Schubert’s sausage wrap rolls, only to be disappointed by their discontinuation, fear not. They’re finally making a much-anticipated return.
The news was first reported following a meeting of the Business Council of Alabama and later confirmed to SuperTalk Mississippi News: the sausage wrap rolls, commonly referred to as “pigs in a blanket,” are finally returning to freezers across the South.
Started in Troy, Ala., by Patricia “Sister” Schubert Barnes, the business began as a break-making operation in her home. As demand grew, Barnes opened a factory in Luverne, Ala., before eventually selling the company to Marzetti.
In 2021, Marzetti discontinued its signature rolls wrapped around cocktail weenies, leaving customers at a loss. The pleas for their return were only partially answered, as Sister Schubert’s replaced the pigs in a blanket with sausage pinwheels, which didn’t quite scratch the itch for the brand’s faithful customers.
After years of fans across the South begging for their return on social media and directly to Marzetti, the company finally listened. The beloved sausage rolls will soon be back in freezer sections across the region, including in Mississippi.
“The Sister Schubert’s Sausage Wrap Rolls will be back in stores across the South in time for the holidays,” a spokesperson for Marzetti confirmed to SuperTalk Mississippi News. “Fans of the sausage rolls should be able to find them in Publix stores later this month, with distribution to Walmart, Food Lion, and Kroger happening in September and October.”

Although Mississippians will have to wait a little longer than residents of other states, since there are no Publix stores in the Magnolia State, the sausage rolls will soon be stocked in the freezer aisles of Walmart and Kroger locations across Mississippi.
