An arrest has been made in connection with the death of a Humphreys County High School football player.
Belzoni police announced that Jaronski Watson is behind bars following a Tuesday traffic stop. Authorities believe Price was involved in the shooting death of 16-year-old Jakamryn Price, a junior defensive end and tight end on the Cowboys football team.
Price was killed Aug. 21 on 3rd Street shortly after a football scrimmage wrapped up. Witnesses at the stadium told authorities that they heard two gunshots.
The traffic stop that led to Watson’s arrest was spearheaded by Belzoni officers and Humphreys County sheriff’s deputies. During the stop, authorities said they searched Watson’s vehicle and discovered a weapon.
As for the shooting that took Price’s life, law enforcement officials do not believe the deceased was the intended target. The charges against Watson have not been announced at this time.
More arrests are expected in the case.
