Two more arrests have been made in connection with a mass shooting in Centreville, bringing the total number of people arrested to seven. The July 4 gunfire left two people dead and seven others injured.
In the early-morning hours, shots rang out at a holiday gathering near Best G’s Store and the Orchard Café on Highway 24. Law enforcement responded to a local hospital, where nine people had been admitted with gunshot injuries.
Two of the victims died: Dekevion Andrews, 19, and Donavan Jackson, 22. Seven others, including four juveniles, were injured but survived.
In late July, five arrests were made: Kaden Anderson, 19; Zavier Augustine, 19; Christian Johnson, 23; Zychavion VanNorman, 19; and Larry Smith Jr., 23. All five suspects were arrested out of state, in Louisiana and Ohio.
On Wednesday, the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Department announced two more arrests. Kelin Moore, 27, was taken into custody at his home in Jackson, Louisiana, while a 17-year-old Centreville native was also arrested. The juvenile suspect’s identity was not immediately released.
Moore, the juvenile suspect, Smith, Anderson, and VanNorman are each facing two counts of murder, seven counts of aggravated assault, and 10 counts of drive-by shooting. Augustine and Johnson are charged with accessory after the fact.
Sheriff Reginald Jackson said the investigation is not yet over, noting that his office, along with local, state, and federal partners, has put in “months of meticulous investigative work.” He added that more arrests are expected.
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to every law enforcement agency that has contributed to this investigation,” Jackson said. “Their unwavering support, dedication, and assistance have been instrumental in advancing this case and bringing additional suspects to justice.”
Jackson again asked members of the public, including those who attended the gathering, to submit relevant information to his office or Southwest Mississippi Crime Stoppers. A motive for the shooting has not been publicly disclosed.
