The Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning is working to see if sensitive information has been accessed by bad actors following a network security incident.
While details are slim, officials said there was a disruption to services at the Office of Student Financial Aid. Individual public colleges and universities were not impacted by the incident, per the IHL.
“No impact to any individual higher education institution has been reported,” the state agency stated. “External cybersecurity professionals have been engaged to determine what, if any, confidential or sensitive data may have been accessed or compromised. At this time, the investigation is in its earliest stage.”
As the investigation plays out, officials said applications for student aid can still be submitted securely through the Mississippi Aid Application portal on the Office of Student Financial Aid website.
“Our priority is to return our systems to full functionality as quickly as possible. Updates will be provided as available,” the state agency further stated.
