Funeral arrangements have been announced for the Claiborne County sheriff’s deputy killed in the line of duty on Sept. 7.
The Claiborne County Sheriff’s Department announced that Deputy Terrian Bailey will be laid to rest on Saturday, Sept. 19. Visitation will be held both days.
On Friday, Sept. 18, the public is invited to Barnes Chapel in Port Gibson for visitation from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, visitation and the funeral service will be held at Alcorn State University in Lorman. Visitation begins at noon with the service scheduled for 1 p.m. Following the service, Bailey will be buried at McCaa Cemetery in Lorman.
Bailey, who was shot and killed while trying to control a crowd at a convenience store near Hermanville, was 45 at the time. He served six years with the Clairborne County Sheriff’s Department and is survived by his wife and four children.
“Deputy Bailey made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and serving he citizens of Claiborne County,” Sheriff Edward L. Goods Sr. said when announcing the arrangements. “His dedication, courage, and service will forever be remembered by this department and the community he faithfully served.
“We ask the citizens of Claiborne County and surrounding communities to continue to keep Deputy Bailey’s family, friends, fellow deputies, and the entire law enforcement community in prayer as we prepare to honor his life and sacrifice.”
No arrests had been made in the case of Bailey’s death, though law enforcement believes two parties fired shots at the convenience store, striking Bailey and a female bystander. The female bystander was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, while Bailey died after being transported to a hospital.
The FBI is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
