All eyes will be on Oxford Saturday, as Ole Miss is set to welcome bitter rival and former head coach Lane Kiffin for a top-10 battle.
Country superstar Ella Langley kicked off what’s shaping up to be an action-packed weekend in the college town with a Thursday concert, and now it’s off to the races. Saturday will be highlighted by ESPN’s College GameDay featuring the upcoming round of gridiron action, with the general focus being on the matchup between the No. 8 Rebels (2-0) and Tigers (2-0). Iconic Mississippi actor Morgan Freeman has been announced as the show’s guest picker.
Oxford will have a heightened security presence this weekend, with Ole Miss beefing up enforcement and the Mississippi Highway Patrol bringing in a record number of troopers for a college football game to keep the public safe.
On the game front, Ole Miss versus LSU is expected to be quite the drama. Star Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy will face former coaches, including Kiffin and LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. First-year Ole Miss head coach will lead his team’s efforts against former Rebel players linebacker TJ Dottery and defensive end Princewill Umanmielen.

College GameDay
The show will air on Saturday from 8-11 a.m. CT and can be watched on ESPN. This will be College GameDay’s third stop in Oxford. Ole Miss hosted the show ahead of a matchup against Alabama on Oct. 4, 2014, and again on Nov. 13, 2021.
It’s worth mentioning that the Rebels are undefeated in games where the show was on campus. It’s also worth mentioning that Kiffin was the offensive coordinator at Alabama when Ole Miss defeated the Crimson Tide in 2014.
Kickoff time
Ole Miss and LSU will kick off inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
Injury report
Both teams enter the game mostly healthy. Though Kiffin listed starting LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt as “doubtful” during Wednesday’s initial injury report, the signal caller was moved to “questionable” on Thursday. Sources close to the scene told this writer that Ole Miss is fully prepared to face Leavitt this weekend. On the Rebel front, Ole Miss is expecting Florida transfer Sharif Denson to make his debut at defensive back and Antonio Kite, who got hurt during week one, to return to action.
