A Simmons High School student-athlete is dead after a shooting.
Hollandale police confirmed that 17-year-old Jadarius Jenkins was found near Roosevelt Street on Saturday around 10:45 p.m. Law enforcement discovered the teen victim with a gunshot wound to the head. Jenkins was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.
Jenkins was a senior at Simmons, where he played football and basketball, along with running track.
“Our hearts are heavy as we grieve the loss of Jadarius, a remarkable young man who touched the lives of so many in our school and community,” the Hollandale School District stated. “His spirit, kindness, and presences made a lasting impact, and he will be deeply missed.”
School officials added that grief counseling and support services will be provided for grieving students and staff.
No arrests have been announced in the shooting at this time. Those with information in this case are urged to call law enforcement.
