A former Jones County deputy chancery clerk has pleaded guilty to altering records so that she could steal public money.
State Auditor Shad White announced that Christy Hodge pleaded guilty to three counts of alteration of records. She is said to have submitted bank statements to conceal more than $13,000 that she had converted for personal use. The criminal activity reportedly occurred between June and August 2025.
According to the auditor, the misappropriated funds were later recovered and deposited into the appropriate county depository.
“Protecting taxpayer dollars is our office’s top priority,” White said. “We will continue to do everything we can to prevent criminals from profiting off of taxpayer dollars.”
Hodge was sentenced to three years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections and two years of probation. She was also ordered to pay nearly $2,000 in fines and fees.
