The winter holidays are nearing in Mississippi, and Gov. Tate Reeves has directed more than 519,600 servings of protein items to be donated to a pair of charitable organizations.
Mississippi poultry and egg companies kicked off their 2026 giving season with an annual donation of chicken and eggs for the charities of the governor’s choosing. Reeves called for more than 97,000 pounds of chicken and over 129,000 eggs to be donated to the Mississippi Food Network and the Salvation Army.
The products are coming from Mississippi Poultry Association members, including: Amick Farms, Cal Maine Foods, Koch Foods, Mar-Jac Poultry MS, Peco Foods, Tyson Foods, and Wayne-Sanderson Farms.
“Thank you to the Mississippi Poultry Association for once again stepping up to serve their fellow Mississippians,” Reeves said. “The Mississippi Food Network and the Salvation Army do tremendous work, and I appreciate their continued partnership in distributing this generous donation.”
Since the program began, Mississippi Poultry Association members have donated more than 1 million pounds of chicken and more than 2 million eggs, which totals six million servings of protein.
In addition to the 23,000 people who work in the poultry and egg industry, 1,700 farm families raise chickens and produce eggs. The industry also generates another 68,750 jobs and is Mississippi’s largest agricultural industry.
