The College Football Playoff is not quite here, but every game will feel like a must-win matchup for an Ole Miss team looking to return to the national title conversation. And a test awaits the No. 10 Rebels, as No. 2 Georgia is rolling into Oxford for what is expected to be a heavyweight battle.
No stranger to one another, Ole Miss (6-2, 4-2 SEC) and Georgia (7-1, 5-1 SEC) have become a thorn in each respective program’s side in the past few seasons. The Rebels ousted the Bulldogs at home in 2024. Kirby Smart’s Georgia team returned the favor in 2025, handing Ole Miss its only loss of the regular season. But Pete Golding and his Rebels got the last laugh on New Year’s Day, as they defeated the Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl.
Golding and Smart, both of whom served as defensive coordinators under the legendary Nick Saban’s leadership at Alabama, will have something to prove when Ole Miss and Georgia kick off on Saturday.
For Golding, a victory will likely move Ole Miss up in the playoff rankings. With the schedule easing up after the battle against the Bulldogs, Ole Miss will also have cleared a major hurdle in its path to competing for a national title. For Georgia, a win would solidify the Bulldogs as one of the top SEC teams and would be a resume booster for the playoff committee to consider.

The Rebels will also be without secondary piece Edwin Joseph for a fourth game in a row.
