When he’s not looking to steer policy that is favorable for Mississippi farmers, encouraging the public to eat locally-sourced foods, or stumping to be the state’s next governor, you might find Agriculture Commissioner Andy Gipson in a recording studio.
The commissioner has embarked on a new musical journey and is set to debut two albums in the coming weeks. A sneak peek of the state official’s handiwork was provided to SuperTalk Mississippi News.

Gipson spent some time at the historic Grand Ole Opry in Nashville earlier this month to bring his musical aspirations to life. While folks will get covers of old country hits and hymns from Gipson, they’ll also be treated to a duet featuring him and his wife, Leslie, who the agriculture commissioner has dubbed “The First Lady of Mississippi Agriculture.”
“We’ve got a fantastic duet. [Leslie] suggested ‘Rockin’ Years,'” Gipson said, referring to the popular Dolly Parton and Ricky Van Shelton hit. “I didn’t know I needed a female artist on it, so I called [Leslie], and said, ‘Hey, would you do the duet?’ She sounds like a young Dolly Parton. Wait until you hear it.”
Gipson’s gospel and country albums are set to be made available on all streaming platforms on Friday, July 11.
