Both Ole Miss and Mississippi State football remain firmly ranked in the AP Top 25 after a weekend in which the Rebels dominated Vanderbilt and the Bulldogs were off with a bye.
Ole Miss stayed at No. 9 after Pete Golding’s team bounced back from a rough loss to Florida with a 52-17 rout of Vanderbilt in Nashville. It marks the third consecutive week the Rebels have been ranked No. 9 and extends their streak to 19 consecutive AP polls in the top 10 dating back to the 2025 season.
The Rebels will have an opportunity to climb in the rankings in Week 7 when they host No. 13 Missouri and former Ole Miss quarterback Austin Simmons in Oxford.
Voters moved Mississippi State up one spot from No. 17 to No. 16. The Bulldogs did not play in Week 6, but an unexpected 35-34 loss by their next opponent, LSU, to Kentucky helped Mississippi State move up in the rankings. LSU fell 12 spots to No. 22.
Florida also played a role in Mississippi State’s rise. The Gators went from No. 8 to No. 16 before falling out of the rankings over a two-week span.
Ole Miss and Mississippi State are two of nine SEC teams ranked in the latest AP Top 25, the most of any conference. However, only one SEC team, No. 1 Georgia, is ranked in the top five.
