The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced Monday additional details regarding next month’s football media day.
Mississippi, which is home to three SWAC schools in Jackson State, Alcorn State, and Mississippi Valley State, followed the announcement with confirmation of which players will represent their respective universities during the event slated for July 16 in Birmingham, Ala.
For Jackson State – the reigning SWAC champions – head coach T.C. Taylor will be accompanied by quarterback Jacobian Morgan and defensive lineman Jeremiah Williams.
Morgan, who was central in the Tigers run to not only a conference championship but also an HBCU national title, returns after a season in which he tossed for 2,236 yards and 21 touchdowns with eight interceptions. The Syracuse transfer from Canton added 321 yards and six touchdowns with his legs. Williams had 25 solo tackles and two sacks a season ago.
For Alcorn State, running back JaCorian Sewell and defensive lineman Gideon Spottsville will join head coach Cedric Thomas. Sewell rushed for 801 yards and six touchdowns in 2024, while Spottsville notched 10 solo tackles and half a sack a year ago when the Braves finished second in the SWAC west.
Mississippi Valley, looking to resurge under the leadership of new head coach and ex-NFL player Terrell Buckley, is bringing running back DePhabian Fant and defensive back Kobe Byrd. Fant carried the ball some in 2024 but mostly played as a wide receiver, grabbing six receptions for 104 yards with a score. Byrd had 14 solo tackles and four passes defended.
SWAC Football Media Day will begin at 10 a.m. CT inside the Sheraton-Birmingham and will be aired on ESPN+.
