The Office of the State Auditor announced another guilty verdict on Wednesday, this time being a former clerk in Sardis.
According to a release, Lisa Goodson pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement of public funds. She previously served as clerk for the Town of Sardis Water Department and admitted to stealing over $1,500 through her position.
Goodson took cash from water payments and then deleted the transactions from the payment system to hide the theft. She was sentenced to 10 years of post-release supervision and ordered to pay $1,100 in fines and $1,531.68 in restitution.
“My office will continue to crack down on cases like this so we can ensure that your tax dollars are spent properly,” State Auditor Shad White said. “I’m grateful that we’re able to work with prosecutors around the state on cases like this.”
On Tuesday, White’s office announced that a former Sardis Fire Department employee pleaded guilty to embezzling public funds. William Clark, who held the positions of secretary and treasurer for the department, admitted to submitting inflated emergency response numbers in order to receive payments to which he was not entitled.
Clark was sentenced to 10 years of post-release supervision and ordered to pay $1,100 in fines and $7,525 in restitution.
On Monday, a former employee with the Panola County Road Department was sentenced to one day behind bars and ordered to pay over $10,600 in fines and restitution. Carvelle Russell admitting to using a work-only fuel card to purchase gasoline for his personal vehicle.
