The Greenville community is mourning the passing of local football standout Alex Foster, who was discovered deceased in Mississippi Tuesday night.
Alex Foster, a former top-50 high school defensive line prospect and Greenville St. Joe product, was confirmed to have lost his life in the Mississippi Delta city by officials on Wednesday. Though details remain slim and unofficial reports are circulating online that he was shot, SuperTalk Mississippi News has received confirmation that he passed away.

Following his high school career, Foster signed with Baylor in 2024 and redshirted his freshman campaign. He was poised to see action on the field in year two before his life was taken.
“We are heartbroken by the unexpected passing of Alex Foster, a beloved teammate, friend, and cherished part of the Baylor Family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Alex’s family and all those who loved him,” a statement from Bears head coach Dave Aranda reads.
“In this time of deep sorrow, we draw strength from our faith and the unwavering love of the Baylor community. Our immediate focus is on supporting Alex’s family and his teammates through this devastating loss. Alex’s memory will forever be a part of Baylor University.”

Law enforcement officials have not announced any arrests connected to Foster’s death at this time. The football player is the second confirmed death of a teenager in Greenville this week. On Sunday, 16-year-old Cody Boettcher was fatally shot by someone opening fire into a vehicle in which he was a passenger.
Greenville police, in recent days, have called on the community to help authorities curb gang violence and “reckless behavior” by bad actors with firearms. This is a developing story.
