Beer sales are coming to The Rock!

The Southern Miss Department of Athletics, in partnership with concessions partner Aramark, announced Monday an extensive list of fan-friendly experience enhancements at M.M. Roberts Stadium this fall. Those enhancements include mobile ordering, new fan friendly concession pricing as well as new concession offerings.

“These new initiatives allow us a great opportunity to continue to improve our game day environment and provide a positive fan-friendly experience,” said Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain. “We are thankful for our partners across the University and in the community who helped make these amenities a reality.”

Student Enhancements Featuring Grubhub (Formerly Tapingo)
In addition, Southern Miss students will be able to purchase food in the stadium through the Grubhub App, formerly known as Tapingo but recently acquired by Grubhub, which allows Southern Miss student the ability to purchase food in the stadium with either their Bonus Bucks, Dining Dollars or a linked personal credit/debit card.

Students may order online and then pick up their concession items at the stand located under the East grandstands near the student section in an express pickup line.

Fan Friendly Concession Pricing
Fans can enjoy new Fan Friendly pricing options when visiting the concessions stands in the stadium. That menu includes:

* Hot Dog                            $2
* Hamburger                       $3
* Pretzels                            $3
* Cheese Nachos               $3
* Funnel Cake                    $5
* Large Popcorn                 $3
* Small Popcorn                 $1
* 20 oz. Dasani Water        $3
* 16 oz. Fountain Drink      $2

New items on the concessions menu for the home season include Ice Pops courtesy of Pop Brothers, based out of Long Beach, and Southern Kernels popcorn.

Concession items available in the newly branded Family Fun Zone include Pop Brothers Ice Pops, along with hand-spun cotton candy and a Kids Combo Box, which will include popcorn, candy and a drink for $5.

Beer Sales – Coming Sept. 28
For the first time, beginning with the Sept. 28 home contest against UTEP, fans 21 and older, with a valid government-issued ID, will be able to purchase beer and light wine at eight different locations within the stadium. Sales of beer and light wine will be available until the end of the third quarter of each home game beginning with the C-USA opener.

FAQs

1)    As a Southern Miss student, how do I use Grubhub?
Answer: Students will be able to utilize their Bonus Bucks or Dining Dollars this year through the Grubhub App (Formerly Tapingo) to purchase concessions at M.M. Roberts Stadium during football games.  To get started, simply download the App and create an account if you haven’t already, navigate to My Grubhub,  select the settings tab, campus dining, and select USM.  M.M. Roberts Stadium will be listed as a location.  Simply select it and place your order.  Orders will be ready for pick up at Concession Stand E40, located on the upper concourse directly above the student section.  Just look for the GRUBHUB sign.

2)    Will Aramark concession workers go through some type of training on beer and light wine sales?
        Answer: Yes. Aramark has an extensive training program that is required of staff members and allows them to address any issues related the sale of beer and light wine, such as:
a.    ID checks (recognizing fake IDs and acceptable forms of identification)
b.    Prevent serving minors
c.    Be aware of the typical signs of intoxication

3)    Why are beer sales delayed until September 28?
        Answer: Concession workers and USM personnel will utilize the next month to ensure the proper training and infrastructure is in place to support a continued safe and enjoyable environment for fans.

4)    Will these changes affect the stadium re-entry policy?
        Answer: The sale of beer and light wine in the stadium necessitates moving to a no re-entry policy for M.M. Roberts Stadium.

5)    How common is the sale of beer and light wine at college athletics events?
        Answer: USM is joining approximately 60 universities in selling beer and light wine at games.

6)    Will the addition of beer and light wine sales potentially hinder the safety of fans?
        Answer: Many universities who have previously implemented sales report decreases in alcohol-related incidents during games, including binge drinking and possession of alcohol by minors. Additional measures such as limits on the number of purchases per transaction will also be in place.

7)    Will beer and light wine be sold at other athletic venues this year?
        Answer: The process at The Rock will be monitored closely this fall, and a decision and communication on future sales will happen at the appropriate time.

Southern Miss will kick off the 2019 slate on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. versus Alcorn State.
