A three-touchdown performance against rival Millsaps turned into Belhaven running back Caleb Gallashaw being named USA South Offensive Player of the Week, the Division III conference announced Monday.
It’s the first time the senior from Leesville, La., has notched the honor. He recently took over full-time RB1 duties after patiently waiting behind now-graduated All-USA South rushers Devin Daniels and Kolbe Blunt.
Gallashaw did not disappoint against the Majors last Thursday. He rushed for 83 yards on 21 carries and added 15 yards on two catches, plus the three scores, in a 50-24 home win.
After the opening week of the DIII season, Gallashaw is tied for second-most rushing yards in the USA South and tied for most rushing touchdowns.
Gallashaw and the Blazers return to action on Saturday in a road contest against Trinity in San Antonio, Texas. Kickoff against the Tigers is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT.
