The Belmont community is mourning the loss of a teenager who died in an ATV accident on Labor Day.
Ava Colley, 15, died at a hospital in New Albany after the wreck occurred in her hometown. Medics attempted to airlift the teen to Memphis, Tenn., but had to stop along the way when her conditions began to worsen. She ultimately succumbed to her inures
According to WTVA, she was with her family at the time of the wreck.
Colley was a sophomore at Belmont High School, which referred to her as a “beloved student” when announcing funeral arrangements.
The city of Belmont also released a statement, noting Colley will “forever be part of the heart of Belmont” while extending condolences to her family and friends.
“To our Ava’s family, friends, teammates, classmates, and Belmont School Staff: please know your community stands with you,” a portion of the statement reads. “The days ahead will be difficult, but as we remember Ava’s spirit, we encourage you to lean on one another and on the strength she displayed in her own life.”
