One police officer and at least four others are injured following a shooting near Surf Style on Highway 90 in Biloxi.
According to WLOX, 10 shots rang out late Sunday evening from multiple spots with people scrambling for safety.
Witnesses reported seeing a male officer receiving aid for a gunshot wound to his right arm, with the Biloxi Police Department later confirming that the officer was injured while searching for the shooter.
Officers are currently investigating around two or three crime scenes to determine the cause of the shooting.
Biloxi Police Chief John Miller has confirmed that those injured during the incident are in stable condition, including the police officer.
“We’re still trying to sort that out, what actually happened, because officers were actually here at the scene on foot,” Miller said. “So that’s going to be something that we’ll be investigating over the next few days. We’re hoping we can come to a resolution and put somebody in jail.”
Miller explained that there has been an immediate response from police departments in the surrounding cities since the shooting.
“Whenever a massive shooting like this where several people are shot, you can expect that,” Miller stated. “That’s when coast law enforcement works together, we always have. You can expect a lot of people to respond, especially if there’s a police officer shot.”
At this time, the assailant or assailants have not been arrested.
Officials are asking those with any information on the shooting to contact the Biloxi Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at (228)435-6112, Biloxi Police Department Dispatch at (228)392-0641, or Biloxi Police Criminal Intelligence Unit at [email protected].
