Mississippi’s only major-league affiliated team, the Biloxi Shuckers, saw its season come to a close Thursday night in a 4-2 loss to the Montgomery Biscuits.
The loss came in game two of the Southern League Division Series at Keesler Federal Park and eliminated the Shuckers from the 2025 playoffs, ending the team’s ongoing quest for a Southern League Championship. It marked the second consecutive season Biloxi has been eliminated by Montgomery.
Biloxi finished the season with a 74-64 record and a first-half title in the South Division.
“The season went really fast, but being back on the field and winning ball games with this group of guys was great,” Biloxi manager Joe Ayrault said after the game. Ayrault had been battling stage 3 colon cancer throughout the season, but beat it.
Thursday’s contest started with Biloxi breaking a scoreless tie in the third inning off a solo home run by Jesus Made, the Milwaukee Brewers’ No. 3 prospect’s first long ball since moving to Double-A. In the sixth, an RBI single by Blake Burke scored Mississippi native Cooper Pratt from second and doubled the lead to 2-0.
Montgomery struck back in the eighth with a game-tying two-run home run from Will Simpson. The Biscuits then built a 4-2 lead later in the inning off a throwing error that allowed Brayden Taylor to score from third and an RBI single by Noah Myers.
Owen Wild (1-0) earned the win on the mount while Austin Roberts (0-1) took the loss. Alex Cook picked up his first save of the postseason with a perfect ninth inning. Despite the game not ending in Biloxi’s favor, starting pitcher Jaron DeBerry tossed 5.2 innings of shutout ball.
At the plate, Made (2-for-5), Pratt (2-for-4), and Burke (2-for-4) each recorded multi-hit performances. Pratt also made a highlight throw from the outfield to the plate to tag out a runner in the sixth inning.
The Shuckers will begin the 2026 season on April 3 with a road series against the Rocket City Trash Pandas. The full schedule can be found here.
