One of the suspects facing charges in connection with the fatal mass shooting hours after Hal’s St. Paddy’s Parade in downtown Jackson has been denied bond.
Michael McLeod, a former law enforcement officer at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, will remain behind bars on charges of murder and six counts of aggravated assault. Bond information has not been released for the other suspect, Marquavius McLeod, at this time.

According to law enforcement, the gunfire rang out hours after thousands convened in the capital city for the annual bead-throwing event. Shots were fired near the intersection of Pearl Street and Lamar Street. When first responders arrived, they found 21-year-old Cortez George deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Seven others were reportedly injured at the scene.
Michael McLeod was fired from his post at the Jackson hospital the day after his arrest.
