A Canton alderman accused of hitting a pedestrian over the weekend is expected to not face charges, according to police.

The alderman, whose name has not yet been released at this time, was approaching a traffic light while traveling west on East Peace Street around 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Canton police released that the light changed when he arrived at the intersection, with the alderman stating that the pedestrian walked in front of his car immediately after. The unidentified female victim was taken to Merit Health following the incident.

Police Chief Otha Brown has confirmed that the alderman showed no signs of driving under the influence, so no field sobriety test was given.

No further details have been provided at this time.
