All three of Mississippi’s major college baseball programs have announced changes to their weekend schedules amid inclement, and possibly dangerous, weather conditions expected to bludgeon the state.
On Friday, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Southern Miss opened things up on the diamond at a different time than previously scheduled ahead of severe storms that landed at night.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) confirmed that an intense storm cell rolled across Issaquena County and exited in Itawamba County, causing “significant damage” in Calhoun, Carroll, Grenada, Humphreys, Leflore, and Montgomery counties. What appeared to be a tornado made its presence known in Elliot, an area that was one of the hardest hit by the storms.
Officials warn that more severe weather, including the potential for tornadoes, is expected to wreak havoc on Mississippi throughout the day Saturday.
To adjust to the weather, the Bulldogs, Rebels, and Golden Eagles — all of whom are playing at home this weekend — will adapt with altered first-pitch times.
In Starkville, Mississippi State will continue its series versus No. 11 Texas in a Sunday doubleheader. On Friday, the Diamond Dogs dropped their 2025 SEC debut in heartbreaking fashion. Mississippi State trailed 8-5 going into the bottom of the 9th inning, but mustered up a couple of runs to cut the deficit to one run. With the tying run on 2nd base and the winning run at bat with two outs, a groundout ended the contest.
Game two between the Bulldogs and Longhorns will begin at 1 p.m. with the series finale occurring 40 minutes after the penultimate matchup.

In Oxford, Ole Miss will not follow in the footsteps of its in-state conference counterpart. The show will go on, but just a little later on Saturday. Game two between the Rebels and No. 3 Arkansas will get underway at Swayze Field at 6 p.m. No changes have been made to Sunday’s outing. The Rebels will approach the back-end of the series with an advantage after having defeated the Razorbacks 10-6.

Down in Hattiesburg, Southern Miss will play ball on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles decimated Old Dominion in their Sun Belt Conference opener of the current campaign, defeating the Monarchs 11-2. Christian Ostrander and company will look to continue an early dominant outing into the next two battles against the conference foe.
In the meantime, officials with Southern Miss are encouraging those in the Hattiesburg area to stay indoors and watch the replay of Friday night’s game while letting the weather pass through before heading out to Pete Taylor Park.
Stay home this afternoon and rewatch all of last night’s conference-opener against Old Dominion!
Hope to meet you at The Pete tonight!
