The City of Jackson is gearing up for a major community cleanup effort with the launch of “CleanJXN Gateway Beautification Day,” a new citywide initiative designed to refresh and restore some of Jackson’s busiest entry points.
The first event, set for Saturday, Oct. 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will target several key corridors including West Capitol Street, Woodrow Wilson Avenue, Fortification Street, High Street, Pearl Street, and Pascagoula Street. Volunteers will be working side by side to remove litter, debris, and overgrowth, all in an effort to make the city’s gateways more inviting to residents and visitors alike.
Mayor John Horhn said the project is about more than beautification – it’s about community pride.
“CleanJXN Gateway Beautification Day reflects our commitment to restoring pride in Jackson’s gateways, and I invite everyone to be part of this effort,” Horhn said in a press release. “By volunteering, we can make a visible difference and demonstrate our love for the City of Jackson.”
Each cleanup site will have a designated check-in area where volunteers can pick up gloves, trash bags, and water. The city is also calling on local businesses, nonprofits, and civic groups to get involved through sponsorships or donations of supplies.
